Joshua Bland
Project Officer
Josh’s first fishing memory was with his father at 3 years of age, catching a juvenile mulloway on one of the Coorong’s many wooden jetties. In so began his love affair with life beneath the surface.
A diverse lure fisher, scientist and accomplished tournament angler, you’ll find him chasing a range of species. Whether it’s walking the muddy banks for bream, casting frosty Riverland timber for Murray cod or popping for tuna offshore – nothing is off limits.
Part of the Daiwa Pro Team, Josh cut his competitive teeth on bream fishing winning the Bream Masters SA tournament series Angler of the Year in 2021 and is poised to do so again in 2024.
Josh has also dipped his toes in the Riverland’s LMLFC rounds and despite a maiden victory has been humbled in subsequent rounds showing he has lots to learn.
With the rise of our freshwater impoundments and his love for kayak fishing, Josh has developed a strong knowledge of reservoir fishing now author of the ‘Resi Round-Ups’ segment for Fishing SA magazine.
Josh completed his Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology in 2019 and underwent further study to gain a Bachelor of Science in Palaeontology in 2023. He joined the RFSA family in 2024 hybridising his love for fishing and science by leading our Citizen Science Programs. Developing the “CodPod” and delivering the nation’s first Murray cod monitoring cameras.
