RecFish SA were happy to be invited attend the annual Fishcare volunteers forum, yesterday the 19th of October. Fishcare volunteers are a diverse and energetic group of people who are passionate about recreational fishing and sharing information, so that anglers can be up to date with fishing regulations and do the right thing by looking after our fisheries.

RecFish SA Executive and Communications Manager David Ciaravolo attended the event and gave a presentation about what RecFish SA have been up to this past 12 months. Issues and events talked about were the new strategic plan, the election policy document, fishery co-management & the Murray River catfish study,  improving accessibility through partnerships with local councils, kids fishing days, RFC’s, consultation and the constitutional reform process.

There was a lively and constructive discussion about a range of issues and it was great to see so many people actively engaged and so generous with their time to benefit recreational fishing in South Australia.

Fishcare is managed by PIRSA and there are over 100 volunteers in SA. There are two teams based in the Adelaide metropolitan area and regional teams are located at the Riverland, Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Whyalla, Yorke Peninsula, Victor Harbor, and the Limestone Coast. Fishcare volunteers are out every weekend speaking with recreational fishers at jetties, boat ramps and other popular fishing locations. It is estimated that they speak with 24,000 anglers each year!

If you are interested in becoming a Fishcare volunteer, or if you would like to know more about what they do, you can visit: http://www.pir.sa.gov.au/fisheries/recreational_fishing/fishcare_volunteers

Thanks again to Fishcare for having us along!
