The 2024–25 financial year was a productive period for RecFish SA, which continued representing South Australia’s 360,000 recreational fishers through advocacy, community engagement, fisheries development, and environmental stewardship. State-wide consultations identified 61 key priorities that guided the organisation’s work on access, infrastructure, compliance, and stock management. RecFish SA also delivered more than 150 “Reeling In” and “Reel Women” fishing clinics, introducing women, children, and families to recreational fishing while promoting safe and responsible practices.
A major achievement was the stocking of approximately 200 Murray Cod into Mount Gambier’s Valley Lake, creating a new recreational fishery. RecFish SA also supported research partnerships, citizen science projects, habitat surveys, and the successful Cod Pod project, which confirmed Murray Cod breeding in South Australian reservoirs.
The organisation achieved several advocacy successes, including contributions to the SA Fishing App, support for improved Yellowtail Kingfish and Rock Lobster management, increased South East Snapper limits, and the Eco-Launch Permit model that helped secure free boat ramp access across South Australia. During harmful algal bloom events, RecFish SA provided community support, environmental monitoring, government engagement, and recovery planning.
RecFish SA also supported fishing competitions, community events, and local clubs while securing approximately $271,000 in additional funding for recreational fishing projects. Overall, the year demonstrated RecFish SA’s commitment to improving fishing opportunities, sustainability, and community outcomes across South Australia.
