Giant, Clever and metro Adelaide’s newest fishing additions! School holidays are on! Following RecFish SA’s trout release at Happy Valley yesterday with the new SA Rec fishing authority, Erin Thompson MP, Rhiannon Pearce MP and Peter Malinauskas- Ivan was straight into the opportunity, catching a 5+ kg trout in the afternoon which he released again after careful handling for someone else to catch. The fight was nothing short of epic on 8lb line and a tiny hardbody lure. The fish was racing for the exclusion area boundary, fencing structure and hanging deep in the water column- slugging it out with the weight it carries before it got the bank with some coaxing. After just 1 day and the incredible commitment from the SA government. Happy Valley Reservoir is a proven trophy fishery for XL/Australian record rainbow trout and we hope it continues to produce reliably into the future. Fish handling is so important. Wet hands, keeping fish in the water, assisting to flow water over the gills until they recover and DONT let them touch the ground or dry surfaces. With small trout, barbless hooks are best. Please look after this emerging fishery. To claim a record, you must be part of an ANSA or GFAA affiliated club. Email ED@recfishsa.org.au for a list of SA clubs you can join- for support, events, comps and to claim new Australian line class records!@top fans ...
